Elaine Tian is a Brooklyn-based painter and ceramic artist. She grew up in Australia, where she graduated from The College of Fine Arts in Sydney, before pursuing her Masters in Design at The University of New South Wales. Elaine's mixed-media paintings explore her interest in mark-making, which is also evident in the ceramics she creates under the Studio Joo brand.

In 2014, Elaine won the Madeline Sadin Award for ceramics, presented by the historic Greenwich House Pottery in New York City.

Her work has appeared in numerous publications, including New York Magazine, TimeOut NY, Food & Wine, New York Times Cooking, Dwell, and in books such as Chic Boutiquers at Home (Ellie Tennant), Pottery You Can Use (Jacqui Atkin), and The Encyclopedia of Pottery Techniques (Peter Cosentino).

More recently, one of Elaine’s paintings can be seen on the set of Calvin Klein’s ad campaign, starring Saoirse Ronan and Lupita Nyong’o. Some of her ceramics can be seen on the set of A24’s feature film, After Yang, starring Colin Farrell.
